Art kindles the flame within.
Artist's Statement
I’m drawn to patterns, details, texture. Intimacy. The intimacy that exists in veins of leaves, sunlight tracing the grain of a pebble, the edges of water ripples. Paint chips. Dust motes. Shreds of feathers. Ice.
There is a universe within each element.
I use macro techniques often – not to make objects abstracted and unreal, but to show that they are as familiar as the contours of a friend’s face. I know a photo is nearing a finished state when it evokes a feeling of remembrance, as if it shows something from childhood that you had forgotten.
I am drawn to the allure of the everyday, but the everyday is not mundane. It is, instead, rich; palpable; complete in itself. New eyes are needed to see your surroundings authentically, however. If you are patient enough to value each breath, then you will be gifted with life lessons from anything that happens to surround you.
